Hypochlorous Acid:
- Is a well-known, safe, nontoxic yet extremely effective product.
- Occurs in nature; endogenously it is released by leukocytes when activated with myeloperoxidase, thereby functioning as part of an immune response. 3
- Was first synthesised in 1834 by Antoine Jérôme Balard, which led to its early use in medicine and sanitation – it was used as a wound sanitiser during both World War I and II. 4
- Has been reported in the literature as an effective antimicrobial, antiviral, antiseptic, disinfectant and wound cleaner. 5-7
- Approved by the US FDA for use on food products and in certain clinical applications such as wound care, 8 and the US EPA as a surface disinfectant. 9
- Our SPT95 Hypochlorous Acid has been approved for the treatment of drinking water in the UK by the Drinking Water Inspectorate 10 and in the US under NSF/ANSI/CAN 60. 11
Our SPT95 Hypochlorous Acid has multiple benefits over existing hypochlorous acid products on the market, such as:
|
SPT95 Hypochlorous Acid |
Competitive Hypochlorous Acid products |
|
|---|---|---|
| Production Method | Proprietary chemical synthesis process (NOT electrolysis) | Electro Chemical Activation (electrolysis) |
| Ingredients | HOCl and water only | Complex mixture of HOCl with large amounts of Na+, Cl-, -OCl, and stabiliser salts (Cu, Zn, Fe). |
| Concentration | Customisable up to 32,000 ppm | 500 ppm maximum* |
| Purity | Minimum 95% | 30% maximum |
| Stability / Shelf-life | >24 months | 3 - 6 months maximum |
| Corrosivity in use | None | Moderate (stabilising salts corrode machinery e.g. fogging and dosing sprayers) |
* Some ECA generators advertise the capability to produce up to 1000 ppm for immediate use (not verified independently)
Instability, low concentration and low purity of existing inferior hypochlorous acid products are the reasons why hypochlorous acid hasn’t previously become a household name.
Our SPT95 Hypochlorous Acid is manufactured in the United Kingdom using a proprietary chemical synthesis process and has multiple benefits over existing hypochlorous acid available on the market.
Due to the presence of these products on the market, and to distinguish our superior product…..

- A further benefit to using our ActaPure Disinfecting Handrub is that it is alcohol-free.
- Alcohol-based handrubs (ABHRs) usually contain 60–90% alcohol (e.g. ethanol or isopropanol).24
- While effective for infection control, they pose non-infectious risks in certain settings including psychiatric, addiction, community care and correctional environments. 25-36
- These risks include:
- Intentional ingestion (e.g. self-harm or misuse)
- Flammability hazards
- Potential behavioural or substance-use triggers
- In such environments, non-alcohol based hand sanitisers offer disinfection without the same risks
